One cannot overemphasize that mining produces twice as much hazardous waste as all other industries combined or that gold is gold and there is no stopping people from risking their lives mining it. Be that as it may it’s high time policy makers and implementers introduce more efficient resource extraction, resource exhaustibility, welfare concerns, pollution control, and environmental management, to name a few. The government’s all-encompassing solution of providing geo-hazards maps to local governments and evacuating people is a band-aid remedy to an industry whose operators do not exactly have hearts of gold.
