Gold, Jobs VS Wetlands: Which Will Win?

Environmentalists are not so certain. They worry about the threat of acid runoff to area streams and the groundwater when rain runs through exposed rock. They worry that such contamination could kill the heelsplitters in a creek two miles away. They worry that too many acres of wetlands will be destroyed. They worry that poisonous cyanide, used to leach gold from the ore, might escape into nearby waterways. And they worry that the mine's reclamation efforts might not be sufficient to prevent decades of environmental problems.
