The President went on to say that the Philippines does not tolerate harm to the environment, particularly the “open pit mining that some of the unscrupulous mining entities did not deem necessary to contain.”
“We are in a period of having to, shall we say, tightening the rules in a sense... increasing the fines for instance,” said Mr. Aquino, referring to open-pit mining.
