Small Scale Mines Expose Nigerian Children To Double Whammy Toxins


The small-scale or artisanal miners of Zamfara have brought down another deadly scourge on their heads by using mercury, a highly toxic metal, to separate gold from concentrate.
"They're getting a double whammy," the associate UVic prof says. "They're getting acute lead intoxication and chronic mercury exposure and intoxication.
