Residents living along rivers Namukombe and Okame in Buteba and Busitema sub counties are living in fear over the impact of mercury on their lives and the environment. This after reports that mercury, which is known pollutant, is being used by miners along the banks of the two rivers in the extraction of gold. The mining activities have silted the rivers affecting the water flow and at the some time rendering the soils in the wetlands infertile.
