Cllr Gallagher said there were ‘major, major, major concerns’ around the plans and that there was a lack of environment and impact assessments. He said there were fears about contamination to the surrounding water, air and the visual impact on the area of the Sperrin Mountains, a place of outstanding natural beauty.
Cllr Gallagher mentioned the use of cyanide in the work and said there were fears about the impact on drinking water. He also said he feared the work proposed by DGL would have an adverse impact on ‘farming, fishing and tourism’ and said that the proposals were creating division in the community.
