Uganda to review mining laws

Dr. Joshua Kobusheshe, advised that Uganda should ensure there are strict health and safety, and environmental standards in the new mining laws.
“Incentives for prudent environmental management help access to finance, avoid legal suits and cost remedying damage, maintain good reputation, social acceptability, profitability and compliance with legislation,” he said.
“There is urgent need to develop guidelines and standards on environmental impact assessments, waste, chemicals management and environmentally friendly exploration and mining technology.”
