It is estimated 20,000 to 40,000 children, as young as six years old, work in artisanal mining in Mali. It has long term repercussions: their health, well being and the future of the nation. The children are exposed to toxic mercury, which are released into rivers, ground water and lakes. They also work in sub standard and hazardous working conditions.
I’m Motar Menta, a young film maker and diligent activist against this phenomenon and I’m running right now an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign with a differing set of goals and aims: firstly the film "The Malian Minors" seeks
to bring the plight of these kids to the wider world and this once made
will be screened at various film festivals. Then sponsorship of
children ($2500) to get an education and a life away from the gold
mines.
Support this activity to help thousands of children leave the gold fields.
