When we asked human rights defender Jane Cohen
to name one of the most pressing environmental health issues in the
world today – she immediately called out children’s exposure to mercury
through gold mining:
“Watching small children in mining sites is burned into my memory –
seeing them covered in sludge, standing in a pool of muddy water trying
to separate rock ore and gold and breathing in toxic mercury. These
kids will never have a chance at a life that’s not impacted by things
they did before they were 10 years old.”http://www.thelittlemarket.com/mercury-child-miners/
