The Great Pyramid of Giza was the tallest man-made structure in the world for more than 3800 years, standing at 138.8m high. But the Mt Todd waste rock dump will tower above it at 350m if the mine goes ahead.
That is also more than triple the height of Darwin's tallest building, the 33-storey Evolution, which is 99m.
To achieve such a great height, Vista Gold will expand the base of the rock pile more than three times from the current 69ha to 241ha.
The original rock dump caused an environmental disaster at the Mt Todd mine that dragged on for more than a decade.
