While Ghana has benefited from the jobs and tax revenue created by the influx of Chinese miners, local residents have begun to resent the Chinese community for the excessive use of oil, causing water pollution and road damage as a result of the mining operations, and bringing firearms into the country from Shanglin.
The Ghanaian government has already deported several groups of Chinese businessmen for engaging in illegal gold mining activities in a crackdown since last October. Beijing is currently talks with Accra over the issue, the 21st Century Business Herald.
