Jimmie does not turn down the opportunity to work for mining companies but he is concerned over the future of the Nechako Plateau and the land’s ability to provide a sustainable living for its First Nations residents long after the gold miners leave. The impact on the environment created by mining, not only the disturbance of the land but the use of cyanide in gold production worries him.
“You could say I may have a job, I have a truck and a fancy Ski-Doo, but you could say that inside, I may be slowly dying. That is one of the problems of mines,” he said.
