This is an account of an open-pit copper mine once operational in Montana.
I challenge each resident of Kamloops in favour of the proposed Ajax copper and gold mine to read this. Does this not make you second-guess your resolve?
Just outside Butte, Mont., lies Berkeley Pit, a pit filled with greenish poison a mile-and-a-half wide and more than a third of a mile deep.
It was once a thriving copper mine from which millions of tons of copper ore, silver, gold and other metals were extracted from the soil.
