The Environment Centre NT has called on the Government to strengthen pollution laws.
Centre director Stuart Blanch says the Territory's legal definition of pollution is not good enough.
"The company and the Government are relying on the legalised pollution of the Edith (River) to say: 'Well, we're not killing anything, therefore it's not pollution'," he said.
"Blind Freddie knows if you dump a lot of acid, heavy metals into a river, it is pollution.
"If states down south, with very damaged rivers, have much stronger legal definitions of pollution, why can't the Territory?"
