he project aims to reduce the impact of mercury on the health and environment of artisanal small-scale gold mining (ASGM) communities in the Philippines by promoting sound chemical management and strengthening local and national capacity to effectively reduce mercury use, emissions and exposure.
The project will have two major components, namely: a) to strengthen national capacity to effectively manage mercury by establishing a formal national institution and training of key stakeholders: and b) to develop and deliver health education, techniques and technology training programs, including early recognition and identification of mercury poisoning at the community level, to reduce mercury in ASGM.
