“The environmental impact assessment for the Certej project caused serious concerns even from its early stages, presenting numerous legal flaws," Tudor Bradatan, from the Independent Center for Development of Environmental Resources, said.
"The lack of studies and impact assessments on biodiversity, on the archeological potential of the area but mainly on the health of the population, all mean that we are seeking cancellation of the environmental permit,” he added.
The Certej project, which covers 456 hectares, will involve processing 45 million tons of ore with a concentration of 1.8 grams of gold per ton of ore - and the use of a sodium cyanide to the quantity of 1,653 tons per year for 16 years.
