“If all the gold and copper mining operations of these small scale miners are legalized, we will have regular on-site inspections and can enforce more rules on safety and environment protection,” she explained.
Small scale mining here, locally known as “camote mining”, has continue to give livelihood to hundreds of residents who are mostly engrossed in the hazardous but lucrative activity to enable them send their children to schools.
Engineer Lumino Caniteng, president of the confederation of mining associations, admitted some inadequacy in the rescue capabilities of their group even they are following the standard procedures of mining safety and protection of environment.
