“I understand that those who are able to get the gold have to process it with cyanide which is hazardous for heath in the long term … both to themselves as well as to their offspring.”
Assistant Minister of Public Health Dr Jerip Susil also warned the people not to risk their lives for quick gain.
“Everyone knows by now that gold in Bau is worth a staggering RM15 billion and everyone wants a chip out of it. But those who dare to venture must take safety seriously as digging deep underground is really a dangerous and risky endeavour,” cautioned Dr Jerip, who is a medical doctor by training.
He pointed out that those digging deep inside the tunnels would face shortage of oxygen and breathing difficulties.
“It’s like digging one’s own grave.”
