Small-scale miners attending the two-day 2nd National Artisanal Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) summit said that they are for the immediate ban on the use of mercury in small mining to “put life back in livelihood.”
Organized by Ban Toxics, an independent non-profit, environmental organization, small miners said that Executive Order (EO) 79 was a welcome move over the operation of mining industry. However, its piecemeal approach to rid mercury in mining operation is still hurting in particular the small mining industry.
