The committee, which has led the charge in highlighting the plight of the residents in Bukit Koman, submitted a memorandum to the ministry demanding that the use of cyanide in the gold mine be stopped in June.
It further cited a random survey which showed that almost 80% of residents living there suffered from skin diseases, respiratory problems and eye irritation, ostensibly from the sodium cyanide used by the facility, located 200 metres away.
