The Raub gold mine was approved in 1997 with the Preliminary Environmental Impact Asssessment (PEIA) report, but without the villagers’ knowledge, an operating licence was granted in 2006.
Since the plant began operations, residents in Kampung Baru Bukit Koman have complained of health problems that they believe were caused by the use of cyanide for mining, such as skin diseases, respiratory problems and eye irritation.
