Gold slag usually contains toxic chemicals which can cause land pollution if released during the extraction process.
Usually, cyanide pools are used to extract gold from ore. Since a large amount of water is needed for cyanide pools, and water has to be replaced in each cycle, these pools are usually located by river banks.
Liu said every ton of gold slag contains about two gram of gold. This means about 200 grams can be extracted from every cyanide pool of 100 tons of gold ore.
