The spontaneity of popular anti-mining marches is often equally forced with opposition instigation or Greenpeace lurking behind but the environment remains a legitimate concern. Aside from the wilder talk about cyanide etc. (one critic claims that the Andes will disappear if mining has its way), there is the very real question of water supplies (which will become even more of an issue with fracking). But nor are the motives of opposition to mining purely environmental.
